Unfortunately, as cars get older, they become less fuel efficient. As a result, when you go to look at used cars, the estimates reported by the dealer might not be accurate. In order to determine how much gas the car will use, you might need to ask for about a half hour’s worth of time to test out the car.

The first thing you will need to do is find out how many gallons of gas it takes to fill up the tank. Next, top off the gas tank and drive the half the distance indicated on the estimated miles per gallon sheet. By the time you turn around and pull into the gas station, you should have used just one gallon of gas. Top off the tank again to find out exactly how much gas was used. If it was significantly more than a gallon, you know the car is not as fuel efficient as it is purported to be.

Unfortunately, even if you are shopping for a used Audi, you can come across grossly inaccurate fuel efficiency estimates. As a result, not only will you be paying the expense of costly car loans, you will not be getting the kind of gas mileage that you were promised. When combined with the odds that you will not be able to secure cheap car insurance, you may well decide to look at a different car model. In addition, you may want to let all of your friends and neighbors know that certain car dealers do not accurately list the fuel efficiency of the cars on their lots.
